By 2025, the global sports analytics market is expected to grow by more than 31 percent, with an industry value forecasted at more than 4 billion.
The School of Data Science is proud to offer several undergraduate and graduate courses in data science and sports analytics, alongside the only sports analytics college practicum in the Carolinas.

Charlotte 49ers' Sports Analytics Internship Program
Charlotte 49ers Athletic Department to provide sports analytics for each of the 49ers’ 18 athletic programs.
Each athletic team will be assigned at least one student intern, with projects supported by SDS staff and Charlotte Athletics. The program started in fall 2021 and will continue on a semester-long basis.
Qualifications: All interns must be current full-time UNC Charlotte students, but otherwise there are no specific requirements. Applications for internships are expected to be competitive, with selection based on prior analytics knowledge and experience, preferred sports, a demonstrated passion for sports analytics and other factors.
Note: Lack of sports analytics experience will not automatically disqualify applicants. We encourage all students who have an interest in sports and data to apply.

Are these paid internships? No, the internships are not paid.
Who is eligible to apply for this internship? All full-time UNC Charlotte students (undergraduate and graduate) are encouraged to apply.
Do the internships carry academic credit? Yes.
Undergraduate students are eligible to receive course credit through the University Career Center’s UCOL internship program (UCOL 3410).
Graduate students will need to work with their specific master’s programs to determine if they are eligible to receive course credit.
How much time do the internships require? Students will not work more than eight to ten hours per week.
Are there predetermined required weekly meeting times? No, meeting times will be determined once project teams are set and will differ from the project team to project team.
How many projects are there? This is not known at this time, additional information will be released as projects continue to be identified.
