Dr. Xu’s research background stems from mechanics and extends comprehensively into interdisciplinary fields, i.e., energy and electrochemistry with the focus on vehicle related application. His group focuses on the following research topics:
(1) Lithium-ion battery safety (including multiphysics modeling, multiscale simulation, machine-learning based modeling and operando characterization of safety behaviors);
(2) Design and development of multifunctional energy storage system;
(3) Theoretical analysis and design of advanced materials & structures for dynamic loadings.
Dr. Jun Xu now serves as the Vice Chair of Energy Conversion & Storage Committee, and Multifunctional Materials Committee, American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME). He has so far published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in top journals including Energy Storage Materials, Journal of Material Chemistry A, Journal of Power Sources, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, Advanced Materials, Carbon, International Journal of Impact Engineering, International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, Composite Part A/B, with more than 1600 citations, H-index=23.
